Elevator Pitch (30 seconds)

Kulture Foundation is a Ugandan CBO using culture, storytelling, and grassroots action to empower struggling families, amplify underground artists, and preserve heritage. Operating digitally-first with radical transparency, we document every intervention and create sustainable pathways out of poverty.

About Kulture Foundation

Who We Are

Kulture Foundation is a community-based organization (CBO) dedicated to creating lasting change in Uganda through four interconnected programs:

  • Family Support & Education: Providing school fees, materials, and emergency assistance to struggling families.
  • Arts & Culture Promotion: Spotlighting underground artists and preserving traditional crafts.
  • Community Storytelling: Creating documentaries that give voice to marginalized communities.
  • Youth Empowerment: Training young people in digital skills, mentorship, and life preparation.

What Makes Us Different

  • Digital-First Operations: We operate online to minimize overhead, meaning more funds go directly to beneficiaries.
  • Radical Transparency: We document every shilling, every story, every outcome. Donors see exactly where their money goes.
  • Social Enterprise Model: We don't just ask for donations—we run "Shop for a Cause," selling artisan products that fund programs and pay artists fairly.
  • Grassroots & Authentic: Solutions come FROM communities, not imposed ON them. We walk alongside people, not "save" them.

Ssebunya Edgar

Founder & Executive Director

To understand Kulture Foundation, you must first understand the journey of its founder, Ssebunya Edgar. For years, he built brands—the pioneering 256 Hiphop Awards, the online Kulture Radio, and more. He built a community of over 200,000 followers. But success felt hollow.

"My ancestors had to bring me back to the foundation. My brands went silent because my spirit was being called to build a legacy, not just a business. Kulture Foundation is that calling."

This isn't an NGO created from a boardroom. It was forged in the fire of personal sacrifice and spiritual guidance. With a unique blend of street-level hustle, strategic vision, and a deep-seated love for his culture, Ssebunya Edgar is not just running an NGO; he is answering a sacred call.

Sample Interview Q&A

Q: Why did you start Kulture Foundation?

A: I've lived the struggle. I've watched brilliant kids drop out of school, talented artists create with no platform, and elders die with their knowledge undocumented. After years in the traditional NGO sector, I realized the model is often broken—too much bureaucracy, too little transparency. Kulture Foundation was born to prove a different way is possible, using technology and storytelling to create sustainable change with dignity.

Q: How is Kulture Foundation different from other NGOs?

A: Three things: First, we're digital-first, keeping overhead low so funds go to people, not offices. Second, radical transparency. We document everything—successes and challenges. Donors see exactly where their money goes. Third, community-driven solutions. We listen first, act second, and treat people as partners, not charity cases.

Q: What's your biggest challenge?

A: Funding. As a new CBO, we don't yet meet the requirements for most large grants. But this is also an advantage—it forces us to be creative, efficient, and sustainable from day one. We can't waste a single shilling, a discipline that will serve us well as we scale. We are proving our model now, so when funding comes, the foundation is solid.
